Black River Falls Tale

Black River Falls
Black River Falls

"Between 1890 and 1910, horror arrived in the town of Black River Falls, Wisconsin. Black River Falls had been a pleasant, thriving, small Midwestern town. Then the mines and lumber industries shut down, leaving people unemployed, ultimately causing the banks to fail as well. The cold and bleak Midwest winters and the threat of starvation added to the blight, and talk of witchcraft and devil worship circulated among the residents. Diseases spread and many turned to alcohol for comfort. In this 20-year period, the seemingly doomed residents of Black River Falls succumbed to a downward spiral of suicide, murder, destruction, and darkness."

The above meme/graphic comes from Meta, and I do not know who created it. It's a good example, I think, of producing graphics without citing the source of the original image. See the article, The Most Horrifying Things That Happened In Black River Falls, Wisconsin, for much more information (including the exact text that's printed in the meme).

The Well of Barhout

The Well of Barhout
The Well of Barhout

The Well of Barhout, or "Well of Hell," is an ancient sinkhole located in Yemen, a natural wonder. Traditionally, it is the abode or prison of genies. Some locals believe it's bad luck to even speak about the sinkhole.

In 2021, a team from Oman became the first known expedition to descend into the hole and make it all the way to the bottom. They reportedly discovered snakes and other geological features such as cave pearls and stalagmites. The hole is about 820 feet deep and roughly 100 feet in width. Fortunately, no genies were reported as being present.

Yemen’s Barhout Well: A Dark History of the Supernatural Explored

From the channel of Mysterious Middle East.

"How real is the folklore behind the legend of Barhoot Well, a mysterious geological anomaly that exists in Hadramaut Yemen? In September 2021, ten explorers from the Omani Caves Exploration Team travelled to the neighboring country of Yemen, to find the truth behind its legendary Barhout Well.

Before the expedition the Barhout Well was famous for giving the impression of being a bottomless pit where the light of the sun itself cannot penetrate.

Till this day, the area has long been home to a steady stream of anomalous activity ranging from strange animals to unexplained  disappearances, with both of these mysteries often being linked to the well.

So what did the Omani’s discover, and could there be way more to the story of barhout well than what the media is reporting?"

Witch's Grave at Hillside Cemetery in Oklahoma, Page 2

Paranormal Witches Grave in Skiatook OKlahoma Haunted

From the channel of URBEX and Broken Things.

I'm not sure if being "cased in concrete" is necessarily a means to ensure that a grave isn't disturbed. I've seen several such slab graves. A few were located in a cemetery not too far away from a long-abandoned seminary. At any rate, the video at the top of the included video is very interesting.

The Witch's Grave at Hillside Cemetery in Skiatook, Oklahoma, is a site steeped in legend and mystery. The story goes that a witch in the late 1800s or early 1900s attempted to resurrect her deceased husband using dark magic. The townspeople were so frightened by her actions that they buried him in cement to prevent him from being raised again. Despite this, the witch continued to dig up his grave, leading to the town's decision to pour cement over the grave to prevent her from bringing him back. This act of defiance led to the witch cursing the site, causing anyone who disturbs the grave to face horrific consequences. The Witch's Grave is a popular destination for paranormal investigators and ghost hunters, where visitors leave coins and flowers to appease any dark spirits or demons present. The site is known for its eerie atmosphere and the chilling tales of the witch's curse, making it a must-visit for those interested in the supernatural and the paranormal. Source: Google

Mel's Hole

Not Mel's Hole
Not Mel's Hole

Mel's Hole is a story presented as truth but is now considered to be an urban legend. According to various sources, Mel's Hole is a well-like structure nine feet in diameter and was encircled by bricks or stones. The owner of the land, Mel Waters, dumped his trash into the hole, and all the neighbors did too.

Two mysterious details stand out: Mel supposedly used fishing line in an attempt to find out how deep the hole is. He reached a depth of 15 miles (!) and still didn't hit the bottom. Second, a neighbor's dog died, and the man threw the body into the hole. The next day, the dog was seen, and he was very much alive.

Mel told his story to Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell. He claimed that the U.S. government bought his land (and the hole). Mel himself had relocated to Australia.

There are many inconsistencies in Mel's story, namely:

  • Mel's fishing line would likely encounter enough of Earth's heat so as not to survive a 15-mile-deep plunge.
  • Under no circumstances can a deceased dog return to life.
  • The hole is said to be in the area of Ellensburg, Washington. But there is no evidence that a person named Mel Waters ever lived in the area.
  • Searches in and around Ellensburg, Washington have come up empty. There is no evidence of a miles-deep hole.
  • Geologists have stated that a hole such as the one described is a geological impossibility.

The tale of Mel's Hole is an interesting story and first appeared in 1997. Unfortunately, it's just a story. It's almost certainly a hoax and will remain classified as such until the miraculous, magical, hole is discovered.
