House Sitting

House Sitting Cryptid
House Sitting

My name is Evan Smith, and I am a junior at Pearl Institute. My major is theology, and I also study Greek. I am writing a short account of a strange experience I had about two years ago. I'm writing because the director of the school (who ranks above the dean and the president) has asked me to do so. As I understand it, my story will be seen only by the school's faculty.

Two years ago, right before I enrolled at the Pearl Institute, I was on summer break and got a job opportunity. My friend Stephen Summers and his family, who live in Three Falls, Texas, just south of the Pearl River Bridge which connects Texas to Oklahoma, were going on vacation. They needed someone to watch their house, take care of their pets, and to make sure their three horses had enough hay and water. They asked me if I was interested, and I certainly was. They offered to pay me 500 dollars for 14 days of easy work, and I quickly agreed to take the job.

I arrived at the Summers residence in my old truck and met all of the family. After receiving their instructions, I helped them load some of their luggage and I watched as they drove away. All seemed well; all was well.

The first night went about like I thought it would. I watched TV late into the night, and later I watched a movie on my laptop. I had arrived fully prepared, and I had quite a few movies on my computer that I wanted to catch up on.

Two nights before the Summers family was due to return, my easy job became not so easy. Around midnight the inside dogs started barking, as though they could rip something to shreds. I forced myself to wake up, and I headed toward their sound.

They were in the laundry room, barking at the windows. I noticed immediately that the streetlights weren't lighting the room as they normally did. It appeared to me that something - outside - was blocking the lights. This was strange, as the windows were about seven feet above the ground.

I quickly opened the curtains. What I saw would give me nightmares to the present day. Something was indeed blocking the lights.

As soon as I opened the curtains, I saw red eyes and the most horrific face that I had ever seen. It grinned down at me with teeth that looked like daggers. Any courage that I might have had failed me, and I dropped to the floor. Fortunately, it did not attempt to break the glass and grab me.

I crawled out of the room and into Stephen's room. He kept a loaded shotgun near his door. I grabbed it, loaded it, and then crawled to the bathroom. There were no windows in the bathroom. I and the dogs spent the night in that room. To say that I could not sleep is an understatement.

I managed to stay at the house until Stephen and his family returned. When asked whether I had any problems I lied and said "no." Who would believe me if I told the truth?

Since that time, I've heard other tales about our area. Tales of Bigfoot are, of course, common. They're common in just about any state. Our county also has stories of a "Bear Man." We also have a story about some cryptid called, "White Face."

I've never heard of a large creature with evil, glowing, red eyes that stands almost nine feet tall. But such a thing does exist. I saw it with my own eyes.

The End
