Amelia shook her head, unwilling to believe such an outlandish tale.
"As I said, you will not believe it. I know you believe that Sir Christian kissed you, but that's only because he has given you the memory. In fact, he bit you on the neck."
"Bit me? Please. Are you telling me that I got bit by a vampire?"
"Indeed. Surely, you've already noticed that you can't bear the sunlight. When I leave, I invite you to gaze into yonder mirror. You will see no reflection. You have also, by now, noticed that you are ravenous, but thinking of food has no appeal to you."
"I will take my leave," said the Emissary. "If you cannot bear the hunger, the ewer contains all the nutrition you require."
