| Shelf Brackets And Completed Shelf - Author's Picture |
I found my decorative brackets a couple of nights ago, and (surprisingly), they were in the first place I looked. I spent Saturday cutting the pieces for the shelf and assembling it. I spent today doing some touch up work and installing the brackets. I bought the antique-looking brackets several years ago at Hobby Lobby. This shelf will be placed on top of the desk where my desktop PC is located. I need it to hold my expanding Star Trek and Star Wars collection.
Yesterday was a full day. I washed the car, finished the shelf, grilled, and washed laundry. Tomorrow I will paint the silver-colored screws that I had to use on the bracket. They'll be painted black and will hopefully be invisible. The only thing I regret about the shelf is that the lumber is more warped than I thought it was. It was all that I had available, though, so I had to use it. It'll be stained with 230 Early American varnish, the same color as my desk, which I also made myself. Photographs will be posted as soon as everything is ready.
