| Red Spider Lily - Author's Picture |
The picture shows the Texas Red Spider Lily, also known as Lycoris radiata. These grow in colony-like areas, and I thought they bloomed during the early to mid-spring of the year. It turns out that they don't. They actually appear in the late summer and early fall. The blooms grow to be about as big as a softball, and you can buy them for a dollar a bulb.
While it can't be detected from the picture, these flowers are growing in a special place. This exact area was where I played as a child. All of the nostalgia that I post about my playing with Star Wars toys? All that play took place exactly where these flowers are growing.
