Fishing, Part 2

Fishing
Fishing

I tore through the marsh like my life depended on it, which probably wasn't far from the truth. I could hear it behind me, and I just knew it was going to get me. I did the only thing I could think of: I dropped my stringer of fish. I think that's what saved me, for my pursuer stopped chasing me.

I finally made it back to my truck, and I headed home. I never told my neighbor or my wife about what happened to me. The story is unbelievable. All I know for sure is that there really is no telling what's lurking around in the marsh and, - at least on that day - my wife's counsel was prophetic.

Later, I heard tales about something called the "Skunk Ape." Except for the marsh green color, the creature I saw was identical to the descriptions. I think it was a (or "the") Skunk Ape.

Maybe I was in its territory. Maybe it was a chance encounter. Or maybe it just wanted to dine on some free fish. Whatever the case, I've never fished in that spot again. For that matter, you couldn't pay me to return to the place.

The End.
