Homecoming, Part 1

Homecoming
Homecoming
Mike Aghul

Pastor Mikhail "Mike" Aghul closed the Sunday evening service in prayer and dismissed his small congregation. He looked at his pocket watch. It was 5:30 P.M. He then walked through the small foyer and suddenly realized that he hadn't turned the lights off. He was about to turn around when he heard the sound of sniffling.

Mike opened the front door. Sitting on the church steps was none other than Chris Tompkins, a young boy whose parents weren't members of the congregation. Chris, however, came to church whenever he could find a ride.

"Chris, what are you doing out here?" asked the pastor.

Sniffle. "They left me behind, pastor."

"Who brought you tonight?"

"Judy did. And she forgot me."

The pastor knew immediately what had happened. Judy hadn't been driving for long. She had brought several children to the evening service and had overlooked Chris when it was time to go home. She hadn't done it on purpose. It was likely just a case of immaturity.
