Homecoming, Part 3

Homecoming
Homecoming

Haze. Fog. All blue tinted. He looked at his pocket watch. It was 5:30 A.M.

Mike decided to forgo his traditional study time. Instead, he took his old walking cane and determined to walk down the pathway toward the cemetery. He started walking, curious about the strange blue haze.

The reverend nervously approached the cemetery gate, opened it, and stepped inside. Here, the blue fog covered the ground, however portions of the cemetery were visible. Mike's stomach turned upside down.

The cemetery was a shambles. Tombstones had been overthrown. Even the larger stones, such as the WoW markers, were overturned. The ground showed signs of excavation. Graves seemed to be haphazardly dug into, as though graverobbers had been active. But no robber or two could do this kind of damage. It would take a troop of graverobbers to do this kind of damage.

If Mike was sick to his stomach before, his head spun when he realized that portions of coffins were resting above ground. Thankfully, he didn't see any bodies.

He made his way slowly to the site of one excavation when he heard a scratching sound. It was as though a dog was digging a hole. It was difficult to understand where this noise was coming from. He peered into the black hole but saw nothing.

Suddenly, hands erupted from the excavated grave. Long, sharp claws raked both of Mike's legs, and he screamed as he fell backward to the ground. He dropped his cane and couldn't find it again in the blue gloom. Then he was being grabbed again and pulled toward the hole.
