- A baby raccoon is called a kit.
- Raccoons have five fingers. But they don't have opposable thumbs.
- Raccoons are omnivores. I've found empty mussel shells and turtle shells near pool banks, evidence that they fell victim to a raccoon.
- Raccoons raid gardens and eat just about anything in them. I knew a fellow who picked his watermelons to save them from raccoons. He put them in his garage. Raccoons still broke in and ate the melons.
- Raccoons often dip their food in water. No one really knows why.
