Hospital, March 29

Medical City Plano
Medical City Plano - Author's Picture

I was nervous about staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Plano. There were a lot of people walking around, but no weirdos. Everyone was pretty friendly. I guess the oddballs come out at night, because we saw them walking the streets when we were up here a few weeks ago. I was mainly worried about vehicle safety and security. I had a tough time sleeping that night.

I watched a woman walking down the hospital hallway looking down at her phone. She was smiling. I wondered why. Husband? Boyfriend? Daughter? Mom? Who knows?

Last night I also saw a flag-draped coffin being rolled down the same hallway. They announced over the loudspeakers that it was going to happen. I never heard who the deceased was.

This morning, I went to Denny's to get breakfast. I rolled into the parking lot, got out, and it was closed. I found a sausage and egg biscuit at 7-11 right next to Denny's. It was surprisingly good.

At Walmart, I found one of the holy grails of my Star Wars collection. It's a Hot Wheels Jawa Sandcrawler. I never had one as a kid, so I never had a large full-featured version, but this one is nice and will have to do. I think I'll try to get a Jawa action figure pretty soon.

The other day, before we came to the Dallas area, I was outside. A pickup went by (it was dark outside) and I heard the obvious sound of a collision. I told my wife that someone had hit a deer. She speculated that it might have been the huge hog we had seen right down the road earlier that evening. The next day I drove to town and, sure enough, there was a large hog lying in the road ditch.

Today I ate lunch at a Korean restaurant. It's called Jimni Korean Cuisine. I'd never eaten Korean before, so I asked the owner for a recommendation. I ended up eating Beef Bulgogi, which is slices of marinated beef over a bed of cabbage. It came with a bowl of rice. It also came with various noodle and vegetable sides, all cold (except the rice and beef). I wasn't a fan of the cold food, but I ate it. I probably won't do it again, though.
