Whitey, Part 2

White River Monster
Whitey

When we arrived upstream, it was maybe two hours before sunset. We decided to call it a day. We tied our boat to a log, set up our tent on the riverbank, and got prepared to spend the night.

At this time I would say everything seemed normal, even peaceful. We heard the noise of frogs, insects (especially cicadas), crickets, and various other creepy crawlers. The cacophony did not disturb us, for we weren't strangers to these sounds.

I'm not sure when we decided to sleep, but it didn't take long. In absolute darkness, there is little to do other than drift off into slumber. We crawled into our sleeping bags, turned our battery-powered lanterns off, and attempted to get some rest.

As I was drifting off to sleep, I became aware of a heavy footfall. Jack suddenly moved, and I could tell that he too was wide awake. I immediately turned on my camping lantern, and Jack turned his on as well. When the light came on, I could see a shadow right outside of our tent. It seemed to be human in shape, but very large. I noticed that the woods had fallen silent. Not one noise could be heard.
