The Duplex, Part 2

The Duplex
The Duplex

"Anything else happen?" he asked. I told him no. He said, "The smell of roses can get so strong that it's almost unbearable. It usually happens in the bedroom. You'll know when it's about to happen because you can feel a woman crawl into bed with you. It happened to me on more than one occasion. I'll never go back into that house for any reason. That house is a portal or something of that nature. I advise you to move before the activity increases. They say the shadow man who stands in the bedroom doorway at night is the worst of all."

I appreciated my friend's honesty, but from that time forward I was especially nervous in the house. The cat was friendly enough and didn't seem to bother my (living) feline. The smell of roses was pleasant enough, and it didn't occur too often. Then one day I smelled roses in the bedroom, and on the opposite side of the bed I watched as a depression was formed on the mattress. It was clear that someone was sitting there. I assumed it was the woman my friend had told me about. I let her have the bed that night and all subsequent nights. I slept on my sofa with the TV going.

Before long I started to see shadows in the kitchen. I never saw a shadow person, but this was because I explained the situation to a girlfriend, and she was kind enough to let me stay with her for a couple of weeks. After that, there was no chance of seeing a shadow man, for I rented a loft on the other side of town. I moved out as quickly as I could, even to the point of hiring a moving company that I really couldn't afford. As far as I'm concerned, ghosts and shadow persons can stay there for as long as they please. I myself, however, will never go back into that house.
