Four Years Later - High-Son's Errand
"It will be done, sir," replied his second in command.
High-Son, The Return
High-Son left the Sun Tribe's city and the battlefield the next day. He found his canoe, and he retraced his path down the Pecan Bayou. About halfway home he grew tired, probably from the excitement of revenge, and he once again pulled his canoe onto the bank. He attempted to rest, but mosquitoes were feasting on him. Then suddenly he saw, to the north, a blue light. He headed in that direction.
As he drew closer, the blue light faded. Now, it seemed to merely be the light of a campfire. He drew even closer, and then he saw the fire.
Beside the fire, reclining, was a woman. She was slim, scantily clothed, black-haired, and more than beautiful. She had bright, piercingly blue eyes.
The woman was, or had been, cooking. The smell of food was in the air. The man moved closer, cautiously, and then she spoke.
"There is no need for apprehension or fear. Come closer and sit with me awhile. I have fish. I have bread and potatoes. Let us enjoy a meal together and let us talk. I'm a traveler, as I suspect that you are, and I would not mind some company tonight. I have a camp here," she gestured behind her, where a tent had been constructed," and I detect rain in the air."
