3820: Chapter Four: It Begins Again, Part 2 - Aaron McKinsley

"Thank you," said Aaron, "Sounds good." He nodded at the woman again and then departed the lobby. He went to the truck to get his overnight bag and a set of work clothes for the next day. He slung the uniform over his arm and pulled his wheeled luggage cart along with him.

Aaron quickly found room 114, which was facing Highway 73, and prepared to enter it. Just then, he heard someone coming toward him. It was the woman who had entered the lobby behind him. She stopped at room 113. "Hello, neighbor," she said.

"Hello to you, too," said Aaron to the pretty woman. He placed his key card into the door. A green light indicated that the room was now unlocked. Aaron pushed it open. "Well," he said to the girl, "I've got a long day tomorrow, so I'll say good night. See you in the morning, maybe."

"Goodnight, sir," the woman said.

Aaron went into his hotel room. It was a basic, no-frills room with a single twin-sized bed. He laid out his uniform for the next day and unpacked his travel kit. He wouldn't be there long, so there was no need to convert the room into a home away from home. Once he was done, he took a quick shower and went to bed. He thought about turning the TV on, but he was afraid it would distract him. He was already tired from the road, so he simply rested his head on the pillow and relaxed. Before long, he fell asleep.

At some point during the night, Aaron heard thunder. It rattled the windows more than once. Then a heavy rain began to fall. He didn't pay much attention to it and drifted off to sleep once more.

The next morning, Aaron woke up and got dressed. It was raining, but the hotel had a covered walkway, so he remained dry as he headed toward the lobby. There was a dining room attached to it, and Aaron wanted coffee. He got his coffee and then helped himself to sausage, biscuits, and eggs. He then grabbed a carton of milk and took a seat in the dining room.

The woman he met the night before was there, also enjoying coffee and breakfast. "Hey there," said Aaron. "Good morning. By the way, I'm Aaron. I kind of forgot to introduce myself last night."

The girl was looking at her laptop, but looked up when addressed. "Hi, Aaron, I'm Margaret."
