| The Residual Haunting of Elizabeth |
I don't know why, perhaps it was nostalgia, but I decided to take a look at the building before it was torn down. I drove through town and turned left to circle the old Dobbs City High School. I parked on the street beside the building and got out of my SUV.
I grabbed my phone and took a few pictures of the building. I was facing the north side of the school, the same side where Elizabeth had left that window unlocked so many years ago. I finished taking my pictures, and I headed out, back to my apartment on 1050 Street.
Later that evening, before I went to my boyfriend Ethan's house, I hooked my phone to my computer and downloaded my pictures. I thought that I would add one, maybe two, to my personal blog. After this was accomplished, I examined my pictures. Something white appeared in one of the images.
I began to zoom in on the picture. Something was definitely out of place. I zoomed in closer, then I saw it. It was clearly an image of a human female. I looked once more, and then I realized what I was seeing. It was Elizabeth, looking out from that same window that she had left unlocked so many years ago.
The old Dobbs City High School building was demolished about a month after my visit. We have had no reports of paranormal activity in the new building. As for Elizabeth, maybe she was there as an act of penance. Better yet, maybe I saw a residual haunting: A repeating, unintelligent vision of someone or something that happened long ago. Whatever the case, I remain hopeful that Elizabeth has moved on to a better place.
