Colin Lamar was a new student at Dobbs High School, having recently moved to the area with his parents. Both his mom and dad had secured high-paying jobs in Dobbs City, so there was never any question as to whether the family would relocate. Although it troubled him to leave his friends and his old life, Colin ultimately had no say in the matter. He didn't object, at least not vocally, and conducted himself like the good son he was supposed to be.
After starting high school, Colin met Tyler Hawkins. The two became fast friends. They had much in common. Both enjoyed sports and especially video games, and they spent much time at one another's homes, hanging out and becoming involved in many games and other online activities.
Not long after the two had met, Tyler invited Colin for a sleepover. This was something Colin had not done since his family had moved from Oklahoma, so he was quick to accept the invitation. Colin's mom gave her permission for him to stay the night, and the deal was done.
Tyler and Colin's game-playing lasted well into the night and the small hours. Finally, around 1:00 A.M., the friends went to bed. Tyler took Colin to the bedroom which he would be occupying. It was not quite small but not large. For a teenager, it was perfect. Tyler and Colin then went to bed.
Colin jerked awake around 3:00 A.M. He heard what he thought was a man's heavy footsteps walking down the hallway. The doorknob to his bedroom could be heard turning, and Colin sat straight up in the bed. The door opened, and a black figure entered the room.
