For several reasons I have become interested in survival and camping related subjects. This post, however, shows a travel kit that I put together for use every time I leave the house. Originally, I planned to put everything I didn't want to carry in my pockets into it (yes, like a purse I guess). As time went on, I added to the set and now I've got the makings of a good travel road kit. It's not totally complete, but I don't have that much to add to it. The bag in the picture is 10"x6". It has been repurposed; 20 or so years ago it held some kind of media player that my then preteen daughter owned. It's a Mainstays brand, and it has a handle plus a shoulder strap.

When the front compartment is unzipped, a black Radio Shack bag is revealed. It's propped against the main bag and is hard to make out in the picture. The smaller bag is loaded with various items shown below. Here I also store my wallet, a bandanna, and a Smith & Wesson fixed blade knife with a seat belt cutter and a glass breaker.
The lower right items are my house key, another small (Frost Cutlery) knife, and a Millennium Falcon key charm. This area also holds my on-the-road medication (the smaller medicine bottle) and yet another small kit in the larger medicine bottle. The black object in the middle is another, more serviceable, multi-tool. I show it at the bottom of the page.

In the rectangular Radio Shack sleeve, I have a cigarette lighter, four alcohol prep pads, two eyeglass lens wipes, a fingernail grooming kit, and Band-Aids. I had a little pair of scissors I wanted to add but I can't find them, so for now I've packed a scalpel and three blades. The last item is a multi-tool knife. It's cheap made, but I sharpened the blade satisfactorily. It also has a fingernail file, a Philips screwdriver, a flat-tip screwdriver, a bottle opener, and a can opener (I sharpened the can opener a little and it works well). Curiously the knife also has a corkscrew, which I will probably never use. The last thing built into the knife is a small pair of scissors - they don't work very well at all.

The contents of the larger medicine bottle are shown here. It has Q-tips, antiacids, a small Gerber button knife, toothpicks, and a pair of tweezers. There's not much stored here, and I could probably get away with putting these items into the black Radio Shack container.

This is the final image of my bag. It has many napkins, not shown. I may add a travel package of tissue, eventually. I'm also thinking of carrying a couple of those silver survival blankets. I think I have enough room for them. Visible in the picture is a packaged fork, a first aid kit, and a flashlight that operates off of 2 AA batteries. I may, eventually, replace it with a Maglite. The following picture was taken from Walmart's web page and shows the contents of the first aid kit. The second picture shows details of the black multi-tool that I mentioned above.
