The Village Idiot, Part 2

The Village Idiot
The Village Idiot

Natu was quite a character. Occasionally he would begin to dance, spontaneously, throughout the village. The people laughed and shook their heads.

When Tobar reached the age of 12, he and Natu became friends. The villagers secretly laughed at the two "village idiots." They hoped, at least, that Natu would be able to teach the boy some of his skills. And so it was.

Their first outing together consisted of Natu showing the boy the best places to collect coconuts, and how to weave a basket to collect them. Tobar was anything but a "dry well." He mastered weaving quickly, so much so that he could have weaved clothing if he chose to do so.

The next thing Tobar learned was the art of flint knapping. He quickly mastered the craft, and before long he could produce excellent arrowheads, knives, and spearheads. Whether it was flint, obsidian, or any other workable material, the boy could sit down and make a point that rivaled anything Natu could make. Tobar even gifted Ninekur with an obsidian dagger. Ninekur gratefully accepted and remarked on the high quality of the blade.
