Blackdart, Part 1

Blackdart
Blackdart

I was returning home for a week after finishing up an oil field job maintaining the pipelines. I used my phone and found a shortcut, so I headed in that direction. I'd never been on that road, Road 31, before.

It took me a while to realize that the posted speed limit (60) wasn't ideal for shortcut purposes. I got tired. About halfway home I saw a sign for a rest area, so I turned onto a short path and parked near a picnic table.

I made sure my doors were locked (they lock automatically but I always double-check) and decided to take a brief nap. I leaned the seat back, turned the air conditioner down a little, and closed my eyes. I'd be on my way soon enough; I just needed a bit of rest.

At some point, I heard a tapping at my driver's side window. Thinking it was probably the police, I opened my eyes and got the shock of a lifetime. A huge, black thing with red eyes and a vicious smile was glaring at me. The thing was as wide as my car door was long.
