I didn't sleep the rest of that night. I did manage to rest the next night until, again, 3 a.m. This is when I woke up to see the shadow man standing right next to my bed. I exited the bedroom faster, probably, than I had ever moved before.
The next night it was more of the same. But this time it was worse. The shadow man was again at my bedside. This time he was standing inside of my nightstand, and he seemed to be reaching toward me. Once again, I bailed. I slept on the couch from that point forward.
I finally got around to asking my landlord about the history of the house. He hesitated for a moment and then asked what I'd seen. I told him, and he nodded.
According to the apologetic landlord, the home's previous owner had taken the lives of his entire family, along with his own life. Since then the house had become something like a paranormal "portal." It was a hub of ghostly activity, and renters usually didn't last three months.
I lasted four months. At the end of the final month, I moved into another apartment. I know my story isn't scary, but living through those events was more than frightening to me. I wouldn't have moved in if I had known about those deaths. And as far as shadow men and other unseen pests, they can have the place.
