Dear Dr. Esmeralda Moreno,
Welcome to the Dobbs Institute staff! I have been directed to inform you of certain historical events that eventually led to the organization of the Dobbs Institute's Capture, Detain, and Control Unit (CDCU). Please read the following letter, and then file it away in your personal records. Once again, on behalf of all our staff, welcome to the team!
Warmest regards,
Kassidy Williams, Campus Security
In 1968, a young scholar named Michael Edward Gatlin enrolled at Dobbs Institute. He was in pursuit of his PhD and had recently finished his B.Sc. By all accounts, he was pleasant enough when one interacted with him, yet much of the time he seemed distant and even aloof.
Mr. Gatlin, if aloof, was certainly a fine student. He excelled at his studies, and he did, eventually, make a few friends. He was closest to one former student named Marvin Weston. The pair, while not inseparable, spent a great deal of time together.
It may be, with the benefit of hindsight, that Gatlin only pretended to be good friends with Mr. Weston. Subsequent events suggest this, though it must be stated that this is only conjecture. We can only guess at what the case might be, as we have no firsthand information. What we do know comes from rudimentary 1960s film footage that was taken by Mr. Weston and Mr. Gatlin himself.
