| The Tenant |
Abby's parents approved of the house and were pleased with its condition. Abby then signed the lease and, with the help of her parents, moved into the house. She began to look for part-time work and to get ready for her first semester at Dobbs Institute.
When Abby signed her lease, the landlord spoke to her about her next-door neighbor. She was told that the young man was quiet, private, and quite shy. He worked nights at a nearby chemical plant, and she would probably not encounter him. In fact, it would probably be best not to interact with him at all even if she did see him.
Life began quietly enough in Dobbs City. Abby found work to accommodate her schedule. Soon after, she began to attend her classes.
A few weeks later, Abby heard activity in the house next to hers. She decided to ignore her landlord's advice and try to introduce herself to her new neighbor. She rang the doorbell but received no answer. She didn't think much of it, as she had been told that her neighbor was a private person.
