From 1987 to about mid 1990, I served in the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery of the 3rd Battalion 18th Field Artillery. Later I was transferred to Service Battery, the 3rd of The 18th. I was trained to work on howitzers, recovery vehicles, and M113 troop carriers. Later I served in non-artillery branches such as combat engineers and mechanized infantry. I hated the latter two. The 3rd of the 18th has been disbanded for a long time. I served long ago. I can't say many positive things about the experience. I didn't like it, but at least I never had to go to war.
