Psychopompus, Part 1

Psychopompus
Psychopompus

Mrs. Kristy Adams received the unexpected and frightening news that she had a tumor in her colon. She and her husband then met with a colorectal surgeon. The tumor was in an ideal spot for removal, according to the doctor, and surgery was scheduled for three weeks later. At this time, I became involved, though I am not a specialist in the field of medicine.

Three weeks to the day, Mrs. Adams underwent surgery. The surgery was successful. Along with the tumor, the lymph nodes in that area of the colon were removed, and a biopsy was performed. There was no cancer in the lymph nodes. The tumor itself was benign, though still troublesome.

Mrs. Adams was released from the hospital the following week. Unfortunately, her colon reconnection did not heal properly. She developed an infection. She then went into sepsis and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). She was transported by ambulance to the Dobbs City Memorial Hospital and underwent emergency surgery within 30 minutes. I, along with Mr. Adams, was present during the surgery.
