| The Return |
Doctor Abraham Weathers was the finest veterinarian to ever live in Dobbs City. He was a beloved member of the community. He was active in the local Church of God. He was not a stranger to the townsfolk. Every person who had sick farm animals or personal pets knew and loved him. He took care of their furry loved ones and could often be found, especially on Sundays, in their homes. He was frequently invited to lunches and dinners. The people loved him, and he loved the people.
Later, people used to talk about the "change" of Dr. Weathers. It began when he was called, late one night, to assist a mare that was having a hard pregnancy. He was about to administer some medication - no one remembers exactly what it was anymore - when the horse moved, unexpectedly. Instead of injecting the drug into the horse, the doctor stabbed himself with the needle.
He went into convulsions and collapsed. He was rushed to Dobbs County Memorial Hospital and placed in the ICU. There was a real fear that the doctor might not survive. Thankfully, he did recover...but he was not the same.
