Eliza, a beautiful girl, ran down the corridor, fleeing from what I told her was a container of acid and holy water. All I had was a bottle of water, and I was bluffing. Whatever the case, she believed me and took flight.
I sighed. Even though she was trying to get away, I was obligated by "The Company" to give chase. I was, after all, a Hunter, so I summoned the moxie and I ran after her. While I did not have acid, I did have a cedar stake with a copper tip. My weapon could slay the nosferatu: As a Hunter, I knew this from experience. At that time, I did not know what Eliza really was. All that I had been told was that she was a beautiful vampire.
The woman moved quickly, but as she reached the end of the hallway, she realized that her way was blocked. There were no windows. There were no rooms to duck into. It was just Eliza and me in a standoff. I produced the stake. She glared at it and spoke.
"I am Eliza of the Company of the Hammer. For many years, my family has had this title. We were landowners among the forest folk. My people traced their lineage back to humans and the kelves, when they roamed freely in the country. This was just a few hundred years after Christ walked the earth."
"You are surprised that I can utter His holy name? I can do many things, young man. Prepare yourself, for if you attack me, you are about to die."
