Libya, 2009, Part 5
"As I said, you cannot help me. Now go to the back of this cavern. There is an alcove where you will find the artifact that you seek. It was created a long time ago by a member of the Clergy. His name was Gouge, and he possessed the ability to open doorways to other places and dimensions. He placed his knowledge and abilities into the Trigon. You will find it, human, but you will not be able to use it, for its powers can be used only by the ghoul."
The female spoke one last time, cryptically. "Go now and seize your prize...and take all other things that matter to me. You will," she began to cough, "understand." The woman breathed her last, and Williamson watched in disbelief as her form reverted to something unspeakable.
Robert Williamson moved backward toward the entrance and spoke. "Abdul, it's safe. Come in." Abdul entered the cave as Williamson turned his flashlight on. Abdul did the same. The two men made their way farther into the cavern, with Abdul following Dr. Williamson.
At the rear of the cavern, Williamson found the alcove with a makeshift shelf situated there. His light illuminated a pyramid-shaped device, the color of lapis lazuli. The artifact was covered in a curious script, and indentations in the pyramid looked suspiciously like buttons. The doctor removed his backpack and prepared to put his gloves on. Just then, something startled him. He prepared to reach for his weapon, which he had slung. He then realized that he was in no danger.
A baby was lying on the shelf, just behind the Trigon. He approached the semi-swaddled infant and exposed it. It was a baby girl, and she appeared to be a Caucasian baby. The girl then started crying.
