Izzy, 2025, The Dedication, Part 10
25-year-old Elizabeth "Izzy" Grace Kent stood near the front of a gathered crowd. She and the people around her were facing the newly built Building 3820, recently constructed by Dobbs Institute as a new home for laboratories and classrooms. She listened as Dr. Robert Williamson, director of the Institute, spoke. She then smiled as Dr. Ethan Thomas made his way forward, from behind, and slipped his hand over hers.
The building before them was massive, situated on almost all of the five acres purchased by the school. It was a four-story building, with reflective glass wrapping around each floor, and plain tan pillars leading into an arched entrance. The building had some kind of infrastructure on its top. Izzy had also been told that 3820 had a large basement dedicated to research.
"We welcome you today," said Dr. Williamson from behind an elevated podium, "to the dedication of Dobbs Institute's latest endeavor. This new building will host facilities for new research in the field of agriculture, as well as classrooms pertaining to our core curriculum. These rooms will allow for more space at Dobbs' #1 Facility. At the moment, we plan to upgrade and expand our dormitories."
"I don't want you all to think that I'm catching her off guard; she's already been told that I might call out to her, but she doesn't really know why. With that, please let me introduce you to Dobbs City's own Elizabeth Kent, our English teacher and a dorm mom who takes care of our girls, the female student body at Dobbs Institute. Elizabeth, you don't have to make a speech, just wave to the crowd."
Elizabeth, prepared but still embarrassed, waved from where she stood. The crowd applauded.
