"Worse, the whole family blamed her for the disappearance. Even after she was investigated and cleared by the police, they still blamed her. Franklin Kent, my half-brother, blamed me, too. He was, and probably still is, convinced that Mom and I did something to Mikey. Of course, that's nonsense, but that's how it is. I only saw him a few times after that, and he practically begged me to tell him what we did to Mikey. Then he started to threaten me. But, I mean, there was nothing to tell him. We didn't do anything. Still, he has a grudge against me even though I didn't do anything wrong. Guys, he harassed the hell out of me. It got so bad that at one point, my grandparents talked about trying to get a restraining order. Then the harassment just stopped. I haven't seen him or heard anything about him for a long time."

"The family fell apart after Mikey went missing. Well, fell apart even more. Mom eventually took her own life. And Dad did too, although he passed away because of an overdose. He was a heroin addict. I was pretty young when all that took place, and I don't remember too much about it or my dad. I never really got to know him. He more or less abandoned us in favor of drugs, alcohol, and women."

"Seriously, though, whatever happened in that house completely destroyed us, and later the home burned down. I went to live with my grandparents up in Greenwood. Then, like everyone else in the county, I went to school in Dobbs City. I guess you both know the rest. You know all about my Dizzy Izzy days, and everything else right up until today."

"Ethan, you're just about the only family that I have left. You were certainly the best part of my teenage years. Anyway, you can understand now, I think, why I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to that plot of land."

Ethan nodded and walked around the island to put his big hands on Izzy's shoulders. He squeezed gently. "Thank you for telling me, baby. I had no idea, and I didn't know how much this bothered you. No wonder you don't talk about it. I wouldn't either."
