Izzy: The Teen Years, Part 8
For the rest of her childhood, Izzy lived with her grandparents in the Greenwood community, north of Dobbs City near the White River. Standing at almost six feet tall, underdeveloped, with dark brunette hair and black eyes, her high school days were a tumultuous existence. While others seemed to enjoy their high school years, Izzy nervously pondered what the day after high school would mean for her. She dreaded thinking about it, and at the time had no clue as to what she was going to do with her life.
It was late in her junior year at Dobbs City High School, when she was 17, that the "late bloomer" began to blossom. Izzy the stick figure vanished quickly, and an attractive young woman took her place. It was around this time that Ethan Thomas, the high school's defensive lineman and all-around sports star, noticed her. Not only did he notice her, but he also began actively pursuing her.
Like Izzy, Ethan came from a less-than-well-off background, but he was popular at school, and he maintained fair grades. Though his primary interest was sports, he had no trouble in the romance department. He had dated several of the cheerleaders and had just ended a relationship with Riley Brown, the head cheerleader, when Izzy got his attention.
Izzy was surprised to gain the sought-after boy's interest, and she didn't pretend to understand it. She wasn't the best student, and she wasn't a cheerleader or popular at all. She didn't have much interest in sports, and she wasn't in the band. She liked to read, but she didn't have the highest grades. The formerly scrawny girl was often mocked with the name "Dizzy Izzy." Still, was thrilled by Ethan's attention.
They began seeing one another, and their first official date was at the Dobbs County Fair. Ethan was a large, handsome, muscular young man with long, dark hair, the same color as Izzy's. They dated for several months. Unfortunately, the pair arrived at a point in their relationship where they argued as much as they got along.
