| The Transition of Camilla Beckwith |
His appearance was as handsome as his conversation was charming. He had come, he said, with an offer of healing - but the price was steep. If Camilla would allow it, he could release her from her affliction. Again, he said, the price would be steep. Camilla had to agree to give him what he called "a blood sample." He then explained, in detail, many things that would be required of her once she was healed.
Despite the strange request, and the "steep price," she agreed to his terms. She chose life. Once her choice was made, Lord Dunwich ordered her to close her eyes. She did, and he bit her gently on the neck. The next morning she woke up knowing, somehow, that Dunwich had kept his part of the bargain.
The next day Camilla received a handwritten note from William Dunwich. It described in detail how Camilla must avoid sunlight at all costs, lest she die. It also elaborated upon a new diet - one that is common to all vampires. She was able to consume any food she enjoyed, but she would also need to consume the life force of normal people: The life force being their blood.
Camilla Beckwith left home that same month, secretly, and traveled around the United States. Served by Jane, a powerful attendant called Boris, and Harald the chief steward, she visited all the places in North and South America that she had ever dreamed of seeing. She even visited the old Beckwith lands and estate in England. She also visited with Lord William on occasion, when they were close enough to do so.
