Mother. The icy presence was Mother. "Okay mom, I said out loud. I will finish the book."
So, I decided to read all of the book before I experimented with the ceremonial magic that I had learned therein. It couldn't hurt, and it might even keep me from making a mistake.
As it happened, my mother's advice proved to be valuable. It turns out that I had my materials, but I was missing one thing. I had to repeat the words of a ritual. And I needed one more...ingredient...for my summoning to work. "Hold on Mom," I said out loud. "You'll be with me, soon."
That night I requested steak and potatoes for dinner, and Marie obliged. She cooked steak, potatoes, asparagus, and dinner rolls. I also asked for red wine, and this too was provided. When the table was set Marie went to the kitchen to retrieve the rolls, while I filled the glasses. We ate together, just like we always did, and we both retired shortly after dinner.
I retrieved the items I needed to summon my mother and carried them to Marie's room. She was asleep, as I knew she would be. I also knew that she would stay asleep, for I had given her a powerful sedative in the wine. I arranged the items and began my spell craft. I repeated the words, which are dangerous and won't be given here. Afterwards, I left and went to my own room.
That was six months ago. Since then, Mom and I have traveled the country together. She even took me to Mexico, where we visited historical areas. I began to learn a bit of my mom's native language. She's fun to be around.
We both look so young - and indeed we are. Wherever we go, we introduce ourselves as sisters. No one suspects that Mom is borrowing Marie's body.
