Charles Walker, Part 1

Charles Walker
Charles Walker

I used to rent a two-story house on North College Street, in Dobbs City, Texas. My house was located about five blocks east of Dobbs Institute. I didn't live there long - my tale will reveal why.

For as long as I can remember, it has been easy for me to pick up on the feelings and emotions of other people. Occasionally, I'll even sense the "feelings" of a house or some other structure. At other times I'll take the brunt of activity that is usually called "the supernatural." People who claim to know tell me that I am what is called an "empath."

As an example of the latter, I once got a spooky feeling inside the sanctuary of a historic church. I took a few pictures while this was happening. When I got home and downloaded the photos to my laptop, there were several images of "orbs" in the air. Some people believe that orbs are manifestations of "angelic" activity. Others claim that orbs are evidence of spirits or ghosts. When I spoke with a self-proclaimed "expert" on the subject, he told me that "most churches are haunted." Since then, I've seen more orbs and had many more "spooky" feelings, often feelings of dread. I was even touched one time, on the shoulder, by something that I could not see. At another time, footsteps rang out, walking down a tiled hallway. When I looked, there was nothing to see. No one was there.

I don't have to come into close contact for my ability to work. I used to get a feeling of deep depression every time I drove by a certain church. The church is older than I am but looks almost new. Later, I discovered that three people - two women and a child - had perished at the site. The church is almost new, because the old one was destroyed in a tornado, and that storm took the lives of the three previously mentioned people.

Whether it's a modern structure or a historic edifice, I am often the recipient of various feelings and emotions. This brings me to the house I rented on North College Street. I rented the 1950s-era house from the Walker family, who were well-off and declared to me that they didn't desire a ton of money for rent. Such a deal was desirable, as at that time I was working a low-wage job. I didn't have a lot of money for rent and the accompanying utilities. Fortunately (though I kept it to myself), I did get a well-paying job at a chemical manufacturing plant just two weeks later.
