Shadows, Part 3

Shadows
Shadows

Soon, whenever I went to bed, I began having trouble sleeping. Around 3 a.m., very frequently, I would awaken to the sensation that something had just jumped onto the bed. I grew up with cats, and I know what it's like when they jump into the bed. It felt just like a cat was getting onto my bed. When I looked, however, nothing was there.

At other times, I would wake up after something grabbed my foot. Whether I was covered or uncovered, the foot-grabbing continued. Sometimes there was a vocalization associated with me being touched. I distinctly remember the deep groan of a man's voice. It was a frightening experience.

The woman was just as bad. When I was not disturbed by invisible cats or being touched, I was sometimes shaken into awareness. A woman would touch my shoulder and shake me like she was trying to wake me up for some purpose. Worse, she was close to my head and would call out my name while shaking me. This activity continued unabated for many weeks.

In a few weeks, the new friends I had made started to hang out at my house. We'd all go to the garage and play video games, drink, and eat whatever takeout we decided to order. I became close friends with one of the guys whose name is Ray. Sometimes he would spend the night at my place before going to work, which was not a problem for me. He's a cool guy.

The dealbreaker began one evening when we were finishing up playing our game. Note here that Ray had already left to go to work. The rest of us decided to go out and check out the nightlife in Dobbs City (such as it was). Everyone piled into Dave's SUV, and I locked the house before heading to the car.
