The Big Screen TV, Part 6

The Big Screen TV
The Big Screen TV

That same night, Alma took a seat in the rocker. She asked me to turn the TV on, and she selected a random channel to watch. She asked me to use the remote to change the channel. She then advised me to place the remote control on an end table. Of course, I complied.

We watched television from that time forward, all the way until about midnight. Nothing happened. Shortly after midnight, we all decided to go to bed.

The next morning, Michael was the one cooking breakfast. Alma had gone to a local retailer, and Michael said she would be back soon. When she did return to the house, she opened her shopping bag and removed a single item: a universal remote control. She and Michael quickly figured out how to program the remote to work on the big television. Then, we waited for the coming of the night.

Alma sat in the rocker and began to use the remote control to surf the channels. 9 p.m. came and went. In seemingly no time, the clock was approaching midnight. Alma professed exhaustion and declared that she needed to get some sleep. She told Michael and me that she would explain everything the next morning.

The next morning came quickly. Alma's explanation of my "haunting" was rather simple. She showed me the original remote control, which she had placed into a clear, gallon-sized bag. She then placed the new remote control in my hand.
