| The Return |
Dr. Weathers' funeral service was conducted by a minister from the Church of God; the same church the doctor attended all his life. It's said that his graveside services attracted so many mourners that wagons and even a few automobiles circled the cemetery three times. After a brief service and a closing prayer, the mourners left to return home.
Many people witnessed the strange occurrence that followed. It's an event that is now famous in the county. When the witnesses travelled around the curve that highway 73 makes before it leads to the city, a lone figure was spotted, trudging toward the cemetery. The onlookers gasped, for he who walked was none other than Dr. Abraham Weathers. "It's the man himself!" some shouted.
Worse, it didn't appear to be the Weathers that everyone knew and loved. No, it's stated that the doctor's visage was horrific. His face contorted into an image of rage and hatred, so much so that some witnesses passed out, and some quickly made the sign of the cross.
