The Quake
Previously, on January 13, 2025, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Brookston County, very close to the Dobbs County line. The quake did moderate damage to homes and other structures in both counties. It also affected infrastructure and other public works in both counties.
One unforeseen and largely undiscovered area of damage took place in local cemeteries. In Dobbs City in particular, the cemetery known as Dobbs City Cemetery (formerly Resurrection Cemetery) had some gravestones that were not overthrown but rather shifted on their bases. Also undiscovered, at least at first, were damaged coffins resting within the several tombs that were located inside the cemetery. In particular, on the second (subterranean) floor of one crypt, civilians who worked for the cemetery association reported that two coffins were shuffled to the point of collapse.
Since the cemetery was full and no longer in use, the coffins and their disturbed condition might have gone unreported for years, save for a couple of facts. First, the casket of one Agatha Gill was completely wrecked - and empty. In 1896, Ms. Gill had been buried with an aspen stake embedded in her heart. She had been a notorious vampire before she was neutralized by hunters from what later became known as the Dobbs Institute.
