Elisabeth's Loss, Part 6
After the better part of an hour had passed; Elisabeth called the police. Their investigation was thorough, but there was no sign of the boy.
Eventually, the case went "cold." The mom was obviously a suspect, but nothing could prove her guilt. The girl's testimony, "He went into a bedroom and didn't come out," was determined to be unreliable.
Elisabeth Kent could never get over the loss of her son. She frequently returned to the mansion to search for him, entertaining the notion that he was still somewhere in the house. She, of course, never had any success in finding him. Finally, after a little more than a year had passed, she was overcome by grief and madness. She left a note of apology for what she was about to do and then took her own life in the very house in which she had lost her son.
