Libya, 2009, Part 2

It was observed at this time that the northern end of the cemetery had been desecrated. Gravestones had been toppled, and graves appeared to have been excavated. Abdul hissed a command in Arabic. His mercenaries immediately got off their mounts and unslung their assault rifles. "We're just about there," the man said. "Be ready to take cover, there." He pointed to some tall rocks.

No sooner than the words left his mouth, a cry went up from the forward position. "Hide!" said Abdul, loudly, to Williamson. Up ahead, men and even horses began to scream, and the crackle of automatic gunfire was heard. The men's cries were the worst sounds that Williamson had ever heard from human beings.

More cries followed. These were inhuman roars and growls. Clearly, a battle was taking place up ahead, but it did not last for long. Soon, the cries of both sides ceased.

Dr. Williamson could hear the sliding of rocks as someone made their way toward his position. He had his hand on his blade, but it was Abdul who appeared. "I'm sorry to say that the other American was killed," said Abdul. "And all of my brothers have perished in the fighting. We can continue, but we may not find those whom you seek."

Williamson and Abdul tied their mounts to low rocks and made their way up the hill. Several litten caves could be seen, but all were empty. Finally, another cave was located. It was strange, for it was illuminated with blue light.
